Benny has been following Juice around for 44 days, and the Golden Retriever puppy is still waiting for the orange cat to admit that having him around might not be so bad. Then Juice walks up to him and rubs her cheeks against him, giving Benny the clearest sign yet that his persistence might finally be paying off.
The sweet moment shared by @itsbennyandthejuice lasts just long enough for Benny to get excited about it. But one playful move from the puppy sends Juice running again, putting their latest attempt at a friendship right back where it started.
Golden Retriever puppy has been trying to win over the unimpressed cat
The in-video text tells us it is Day 44 of trying to convince Juice that Benny is staying. And the video shows that Benny is still trying to win Juice’s friendship. The Golden Retriever puppy follows Juice around the house, staying so close behind her that she can barely turn around without finding him there. When she checks out a plant in the living room, Benny is right behind her. She eventually has to walk past him, and he simply stands there waiting.
Then comes the moment Benny has clearly been hoping for. Juice walks up to him near the window, and instead of passing by, she rubs her cheeks against him. Benny’s tail starts wagging, and the text on screen announces, “Juice rubbed her cheeks on him!” Juice even stays near him for a moment afterward. For a puppy who has been working this hard, it looks like a breakthrough.
Later, though, Benny is lying on the couch with his toy when Juice walks into the room. He sees her, gets excited, and pops up into a play bow. Juice gets startled, runs away, and just like that, the brokered peace is over. The human filming even tries to step in when the puppy follows the cat, but Juice is already making her escape.
So yes, the cat rubs against puppy moment really happened. But the cat and dog friendship is still a work in progress. One viewer joked in the comments, “Just when Juice finally gave an inch, Benny took a mile.”
