For Fiddler, being rescued was only the beginning of her story. The shelter cat was saved from a storm last July, but nearly a year later, she is still waiting for someone to choose her. A touching video on Instagram is now giving viewers a glimpse into the shelter cat’s journey and the hope that the right family will finally see her.
Shelter cat rescued from storm waits for her forever home
Shared by Albert Harris and Puppy Kitty NYCity, the video begins by revisiting the moment Fiddler was rescued during a storm in July last year. The footage shows the frightened cat stranded on the roof of a house as heavy rain falls around her. While escaping the storm changed the course of Fiddler’s life, the video explains that her struggles did not end there.
After arriving at the shelter, Fiddler found it difficult to adjust to her new surroundings. According to text shown in the video, the shelter cat spent months pressed tightly against a wall, overwhelmed by fear and unwilling to let anyone touch her. Rather than giving up, shelter volunteers patiently worked to earn her trust.
The post explains that they spent countless hours sitting with her, giving her the time and space she needed to feel safe. Slowly, Fiddler began to come out of her shell. The transformation became one of the video’s most emotional moments. The text explains that after all that time, “she chose to trust.” It was a milestone made possible through months of patience and care.
Yet despite that progress, there was another heartbreaking truth. “But volunteers always go home,” the text reads. “And she still waits for the love that never comes.” The accompanying caption expands on her story, explaining that Fiddler is now “drowning in a sea of cats no one sees.” It adds that after nearly a year of “borrowed love,” Fiddler has finally learned to lean into human affection. Even so, she remains without a permanent family.
The organization hopes that sharing Fiddler’s journey will help change that. “While we can’t rewrite her past, we can help give her a future,” the caption reads. “Let’s get Fiddler seen.”
