Mango, the girl cat, is stretched out beside him, looking perfectly content, happy to be held, kissed, cuddled, and fussed over. Mango seems to have no complaints about her dad’s attention. She lies beside him while he pets her, plays with her, and gives her kisses. At one point, he even holds her up on his belly and gives her a little shake while she stays completely relaxed. On another day, Mango is asleep on top of her dad’s blanket while he gently pets her. He plays with her ears, too, and she barely seems to notice.
Then Ringo appears. The text changes to “dad with a boy cat,” and his dad immediately takes a different approach. His finger lands on top of Ringo’s paw. The boy cat bats at it. It’s the sort of interaction that looks less like a cuddle session and more like his dad has discovered exactly which button to press.
Ringo later sits on his cat tower while his dad leans in close. A bit too close, according to the boy cat. His tail starts swishing, and his dad keeps going until Ringo suddenly moves, startling both of them.
More than 71,000 people have liked the comparison. The comments had plenty of questions about the very different relationships. One person wondered why Ringo seems so unimpressed with his dad while Mango treats him like her favorite person.
Another joked that the cat dad is Ringo’s “spare human” and is only useful when mom isn’t around. There was also a familiar observation: “It’s always Daddy’s gal and Momma’s boi.”
Whatever the household arrangement, both cats clearly have their own way of showing affection. Mango is happy to settle in for the attention. Ringo seems to prefer keeping his dad entertained and slightly on his toes.
