Coco’s first few weeks of life were far from easy. Born with special needs, the tiny kitten struggled during a period when most young cats are simply learning to feed, move, and explore. She even came close to losing her life at only three weeks old. Now, footage documenting her first 15 weeks gives you a close look at how much Coco has grown and changed.

A video shared by Lara on @larafosters documents the growth of a kitten named Coco from birth through her 15th week. The footage offers a week-by-week look at how much she changed despite facing a serious medical condition from the beginning of her life.
The clip begins with the message, “Watch my special needs kitten grow from 0 to 15 weeks old.” At zero weeks, Coco is tiny and appears frail, with her eyes still closed. She makes only small movements, and the early footage shows just how vulnerable she was as a newborn.
During the first few weeks, Coco remains noticeably weak and seems to have little awareness of what is happening around her. As the weeks pass, however, the changes become easier to see. She gradually becomes more active, while her body begins to grow and develop.
A more noticeable transformation can be seen around seven weeks old. By then, Coco is stronger and visibly larger than she was during her first weeks. Three weeks later, she begins to show more of the playful personality expected from a growing kitten.
By the end of the video, Coco has reached 15 weeks and looks healthier, more alert, and much more active. While she is still smaller than a typical kitten her age, the difference between the newborn seen at the start and the kitten at the end is significant.
Lara explained in the post’s caption that Coco has congenital hypothyroidism, a rare condition that affects the thyroid gland and requires lifelong treatment. Coco needs medication twice a day and regular blood tests to monitor her thyroid hormone levels.
Her veterinary care currently includes a blood draw every month, which Lara says Coco handles like an “absolute champ.” The kitten is also taking part in a study at UC Davis because congenital hypothyroidism is extremely uncommon among cats.
Her journey has not been without serious setbacks. Lara revealed that Coco nearly died when she was only three weeks old. Despite everything she has experienced, the resilient feline has continued to make progress with treatment and careful monitoring.
