Lulu seems to have decided that she is going to win over her canine brother River by hook or by crook. The kitten and dog started getting acquainted when Lulu was tiny, and while she has spent plenty of time working on the friendship, River has mostly chosen to pretend she is not there.
A video from @riverthestreetdog follows Lulu’s determined attempts from those early days, when she first stared at River through her pen, to following him around the house and even joining him on walks through the woods.
Persistent kitten approaches the dog again and again, hoping to become friends
Lulu’s first introduction to River involved a lot of staring. She watched him through the bars of her pen until River eventually came over to sniff her, and she happily sniffed him right back. From there, Lulu slowly got bolder.
At first, she stretched her neck toward River’s fur while they were both on the floor. Another day, she sat behind him while he was being petted and reached out with a paw. The little kitten was clearly trying to find her way into his world.
Food gave her another opportunity. Lulu and River sat together near the kitchen, both looking up at mom with hopeful faces. If River was asking for a snack, she was happy to join him. Then Lulu started following him outdoors, too. During a walk in the woods, River sniffed around on his leash while Lulu trailed behind. At one point, they stopped beside each other to investigate their own interesting smells.
Back home, she followed him to his elevated food bowls and later tried another approach while River lounged on the carpet. Lulu rolled around and waved her tail in front of him, seemingly putting considerable effort into getting his attention. The dog’s reaction to kitten Lulu? Almost nothing.
He keeps looking elsewhere, often choosing to focus on his human instead. The final shot says plenty: “Lulu is looking at River, while River is looking away.” That persistence has already made this cat-and-dog friendship a favorite with viewers. One person is convinced they will be cuddling within a year, while another is now fully invested in Lulu’s kitten friendship mission.
